Fabless Industrial Company operates a new concept system semiconductor production strategy called 'MPC'
The Korea Fabless Industry Association will operate a "multi-project chip (MPC)" project to help semiconductor fabless and foundry coexist and strengthen national system semiconductor capabilities. It is a new concept pre-production method that implements semiconductor design technology specialized by fabless with one chip. The association expected MPC to not only reduce the cost of developing system semiconductors but also increase the yield of prototypes.
The Korea Fabless Industry Association recently selected MPC as its main business and started a survey on demand for domestic semiconductor fabless. It is planning to establish a business cooperation system for foundry and government agencies that support the production of system semiconductor prototypes.
MPC was first proposed by the association as a concept that improved the "multi-project wafer (MPW)" that makes semiconductor prototypes from various companies in foundry. Related patents are also being filed.
Existing MPW and MPC are the same that several companies participate in semiconductor production. MPW is a method in which semiconductor chips from many companies are made on one wafer. On the other hand, MPC is implemented as a chip with semiconductor design assets (IP), cores, libraries, and software (SW) on one wafer. With its representative system-on-chip (SoC) structure, it is advantageous to develop high-performance and high-quality system semiconductors by combining different capabilities of fabless companies.
